MATlab: Integrating Assistive Technology into Pre-Service Teacher Education, a Pilot Program

ICATER is a new center located in the College of Education at the University of Iowa that has been focusing on developing a model for pre-service assistive technology education for teachers. This presentation will discuss ICATER's innovative usage of a mobile assistive technology lab (MATlab) to provide a hands-on experience to students in Technology in the Classroom. Presenters will discuss the development of an AT curriculum, establishment of a MATlab, implementation of the curriculum, student feedback, and examples of student presentations. Obstacles to program implementations, the data being collected, and the future implications for teacher education will also be discussed.
